2019 marks an important milestone for us, with SOTC commemorating its 70th year of operations. It has been a significant journey for the company from its inception in Mumbai in 1949, with numerous achievements and accolades along the way. Many congratulations to Vishal and Team SOTC!
Earlier this month we received Board approval for a 51% stake in Digiphoto Entertainment Imaging (DEI), one of the world’s leading imaging solutions and services providers. The acquisition marks the Thomas Cook India Group’s entry into an adjacent sector, complementary to our travel and travel related services portfolio. We look forward to leveraging the many synergies that exist across the Thomas Cook India Group with Ram, and his passionate team of entrepreneurs!
Azim Premji, Chairman of Wipro Ltd., a highly respected business leader (fondly referred to as the Czar of the Indian IT Industry) was a special guest at our office in Mumbai. He spent time interacting with our Management Team. We salute him for his commitment to philanthropy, which is truly remarkable.
Our Global Destination Management Specialists have reported several new initiatives: Private Safaris (South Africa) signing a representation agreement with India and a new representative in North America; Private Safaris (East Africa) managing the Thomas Cook Group’s CEO meet in Nairobi; Asian Trails (Indonesia) opening their 5th office on the island of Flores; Gulf Dunes hosting a major MICE event for 2600 in Dubai; Allied T-Pro partnering with STR to gain market share in the Middle East, and Luxe Asia moving to refurbished office spaces that are a delightful mix of wildlife and nature based themes, to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
The year has begun well for us, and despite being an election year in India, our forward bookings are looking healthy and augur well for the Summer season ahead. Best wishes to each of you in the run up to the Holiday Season for India. I look forward to reports about your wins in the next edition!
