For most delegates, the visit to Bako National Park in Sarawak was simply one of the highlights of their incentive programme. They explored ancient rainforest, spotted remarkable wildlife and returned with unforgettable memories, never realising the complex operation taking place behind the scenes to make it all possible.
Unlike many excursions, a visit to Bako National Park is dictated by the tides. Boat access to and from the park changes daily, with water levels determining when it is safe to depart, land and return. These conditions cannot be confirmed well in advance and often need to be assessed the day before – or even on the morning of the excursion.
Leading the operation was Yong Yee, MICE Manager for Asian Trails Malaysia, whose calm leadership and meticulous planning ensured every detail came together seamlessly. Working closely with our operations team, experienced local nature guides and boat operators, Yong Yee coordinated a constantly evolving plan based on the latest tidal forecasts and real-time sea conditions.
As the situation developed, the team adjusted hotel departure times, boat schedules, hiking routes and return timings, carefully balancing the programme around the narrow tidal window. Throughout the day, the guides expertly managed the group’s pace, allowing delegates to enjoy the rainforest without ever feeling hurried, while maintaining constant communication with the boat operators should conditions change.
The result was exactly what every successful event should be: an experience where the client never noticed the challenges being overcome behind the scenes. The excursion ran flawlessly, with delegates returning having enjoyed one of Borneo’s most spectacular national parks, completely unaware of the logistical complexity that had been managed on their behalf.

This is a wonderful example of what makes Asian Trails different. It is not simply about planning an itinerary; it is about combining local knowledge, operational expertise and teamwork to anticipate challenges before they become problems. Special recognition goes to Yong Yee, whose leadership, quick thinking and close collaboration with the team ensured the programme was delivered safely, smoothly and to the exceptionally high standard our clients have come to expect.
