Rail connection between Thailand and Cambodia had been discontinued for 45 years due to internal conflicts. The two countries are joined again on April 22nd 2019 with the official opening of the cross-border railway connecting Thailand-Aranyaprathet and Cambodia-Poipet regions in western Cambodia. The 386 km-long Northern rail connects Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh to Poipet on the Thai border via Battambang. Regular services may not begin before year end as the two countries still need to agree on schedules and other details.

This new connection will boost transport and border trade, and provides a new way to travel between the two countries.
