Private Safaris SA Celebrates Mandela Day With Pride

Mandela Day, celebrated on July 18th every year, is a significant day in the South African calendar. It is a day dedicated to commemorating the life and legacy of the country’s first democratically elected President, Nelson Mandela, by inspiring individuals and companies to take action and make a positive impact in their communities. This year’s theme, #ItIsInYourHands, highlights the importance of personal responsibility through philanthropy and volunteerism.

At Private Safaris, we chose to focus our efforts on assisting Pride Shelter Trust in Cape Town. Founded in 2006, this nonprofit organisation has been tirelessly advocating for the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals facing homelessness and discrimination. Through consultation with the dedicated team at Pride Shelter Trust, Private Safaris staff were encouraged to donate specific items tailored to address the unique needs and challenges faced by its residents. These meticulously crafted gift bags are not merely tokens of goodwill but tools for empowerment.

It is our belief that tourism can impact positive change, whether it be for wildlife conservation, social development and community upliftment or garnering public attention toward pressing issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community in Africa. Pride Shelter Trust stands as a beacon of hope for marginalised communities while honouring Mandela’s vision of equality and inclusivity. By collaborating with this reputable organisation, Private Safaris illustrated our dedication towards creating sustainable change that goes beyond mere gestures. The Madiba-inspired event served as a timely reminder that it is within our collective ability to make a positive impact on society by extending a helping hand to those in need.
