‘Glamping’ is a fusion of two words – ‘glamour’ and ‘camping’ – and describes a style of camping where stunning nature meets modern luxury and where, in some cases, resort-style services are part of the experience. While usually associated with the expansive African landscape glamping has spread like wild fire in parts of our Asia. Many travel companies have new products in some of the region’s amazing destinations to meet the increasing demand this style of holidaying with overnight stays in luxury tents within a pristine natural environment.

The ‘glamour’ part of this experience is that the traveller does not have to sacrifice creature comforts while enjoying the adventure of camping alongside spectacular nature, making it suitable for anyone who is not keen to follow the well-trodden tourist paths. For newly-weds it is the perfect way to spend their honeymoon amidst nature but in comfort, and for families to bond in a natural environment.

Glamping is also slowly evolving into a marriage between adventure and sustainability – with the tented operators ensuring their products and services are sensitive to the environment while travellers learn about nature’s fragility during their stay, and partake in responsible activities to help in its preservation.
