The compilation of our Art of Travel Annual over the past two years has been interesting, challenging, rewarding, restorative, demanding, and sometimes just a weird exercise!
People ask, “How much can there be to cover with no travel happening?” Our first reaction last year was similar: How do we put together a travel publication when there’s no travel happening?
We couldn’t have been more wrong. Perhaps these two years of the pandemic gave us engaging stories and worthwhile subjects like no other year of the Art of Travel Annual. Our colleagues shared stories about how they have learned and innovated, rejoiced at the simple pleasures, and recognised the things they cherished most. It was an outstanding example of a shared spirit of cooperation. There was no shortage of wonderful stories to tell, and that’s true for this year as well.
The highlights of this year’s Art of Travel Annual include untold stories from lesser-known destinations by our colleagues, our Video Lecture series, and the journey of the Sustainability Committee which has exemplified fresh thinking and embraced new strategies to make our business more sustainable. Plus, we look at an interesting word added to our vocabulary: “workation”
As we mark two years of the pandemic, there are reasons for hope. We all met after two years at the Kerala Travel Mart, chatted about travel, and did our FAM Tours and inspections. It has positively touched us all and comforted us. The excitement that we will be able to get back on track at the soonest is palpable.
In this issue of the Art of Travel Annual, we honour and celebrate it all.
